Howard Lutnick was thrust onto the national stage when the Sept. 11 attacks killed 658 of his employees, including his brother. The Cantor Fitzgerald CEO became one of the most recognizable faces of 9/11, and rebuilt the financial services firm against all odds. Lutnick took a public beating for cutting off pay to his employees’ relatives after the attacks, but by 2006, the firm had donated $180 million to them. On Lutnick’s watch, Cantor Fitzgerald made a massive move into real estate in 2009, when it launched Cantor Commercial Real Estate, a finance division that originated $10 billion in loans last year. In 2011, Cantor Fitzgerald affiliate BGC Partners purchased commercial real estate brokerage Newmark Knight Frank, as well as assets from Grubb & Ellis, both for undisclosed sums, to form Newmark Grubb Knight Frank.

She would go to India and then come back and start yelling that I hadn’t done my homework. My dad died about 18 months after my mom. He takes me to college [at Haverford in Pennsylvania], and then goes to get his first chemo. The nurse makes a mistake and gives him 100 times the dose and kills him. From there on, the world’s just different.

High risk start-ups are a valuable economy. Responsible investors who realize that most of them fail allocate only a small percentage of their portfolios to such investments can occasionally hit a grand slam. My very middle-class father-in-law invested in a cell-phone start up back when 99% of the population had never heard of those, and made a quick profit of about $50k. He also bought some turkeys , but was wise enough to avoid major losses. His grandchildren benefited nicely from this. There’s nothing crooked going on here.

Trump needs scam artists like this to fill his swamp of an Administration. The closer they have come to having done things like driving 6 companies into bankruptcy or running a Trump University-type scam, the better the fit.
I am not a fan of Lutnick but even less so of this obvious hit piece from the main newspaper of the deep state. You'd think that would be the NYT but you would be wrong.
At least his investors did so voluntarily. Biden and his boys just spent $6,000,000,000.00 of YOUR money on soon to fail Rivian without your consent.
This is such a blatant hit piece it hardly deserves a comment. But here goes: yes, SPACs were an eyesore on the industry. While the concept made sense, there were simply too many and the incentive structure was suspect. Much has been written about their flaws and failure. That said, every firm on Wall Street was involved in underwriting SPACs. Lutnick, as CEO of Cantor, was a mouthpiece (and investor). You could say the same of Jamie Dimon (JPM), David Solomon (GS), Jane Frazer (CITI), James Gorman (MS), and the list could go on. Each of these would make a fine Commerce Secretary. Enough said.

Another one sided hit piece in the WSJ that there is no reason to read based upon the headline. No mention of how Ludnick is a hero when he survived the terrorist hit on the WTC and how he rebuilt the company and helped all the survivors. Instead WSJ picks out a bad investment, which most people have and is not that unusual. Compared to Biden's pick Raimondo or Obama's pick Pritzker he is a breath of fresh air and will likely be a great commerce secretary.

This is starting to get really tiresome. Many of us express annoyance at the constant negative pieces about Trump and his cabinet picks. But it's genuinely getting to the point where I might cancel my subscription.

What an absurd hit piece focusing in one narrow line of business from years ago. SPACs are all but dead. Cantor is a diversified financial services firm with thousands of employees across dozens of offices globally. The guy rebuilt his firm after 9/11 where he lost 650+ employees including his brother. He then went on to create a relief fund to support families of employees at Cantor who died in the Towers. I'm not saying he's a saint, but at least give a balanced view. This is an awful take.
